BRILLIANT article in The Sentinel Times (19/12/23) by Michael Giles.

So Michael Whelan wants to throw away up to $175,000 of our ratepayers money on his ridiculous climate change ideology that will achieve absolutely nothing for the people of our Bass Coast Shire.

By all means find another bank that does not invest in fossil fuels but find one if you can that keeps the interest provided on the $35 million invested by this Council at exactly the same rate.

Just like Directors have an obligation for returns to their company shareholders, so too should Councillors have an obligation for returns to ratepayers without throwing our money away. This borders on negligence. This is our money …. not yours to just throw away!

With the cost of living the way it is at the moment maybe we can ask Bass Coast Councillors to freeze next year’s council rates for the local ratepayers and any shortfall in Council coffers can come directly out of Michael Whelan’s own pocket.

And a final message to Whelan: Do what your ratepayers want, not what your ideology dictates! No wonder your Council satisfaction survey plummeted right down.
