POOWONG travelled to Yarragon for the second last home and away game needing a win in the seniors to remain a chance of finals also needing a lift in percentage.

Poowong seniors kicked to the highway end, Yarragon to the south end with the wind.

It was Poowong with goals to Joel Norton and Jack Hazendonk giving Poowong a fifteen-point lead at quarter time.

The second quarter started well for Poowong with Jack Hazendonk to Matt Cozzio for a point, the kick out came straight back with a goal to Steve McInnes, then a series of passes to Hazendonk for his second as Poowong were making the most of their opportunities.

Poowong worked hard in the third quarter with four goals to Yarragon one, Poowong’s goals came from Matt Cozzio, a long goal to Tommy Burgess and two others from Alex Henshall and Will Robertson to have a 58-point lead for the Magpies.

Yarragon came out determined to lift their game in the last quarter managing two early goals before Steve McInnes kicked his second followed by Jack Hazedonk with his third, a great left foot kick.

Yarragon added a late goal to reduce the margin to 46 points.

A good win on the day and enough percentage to get us back into the five with Lang Lang losing so comes down to next week’s results, if a win each it will come down to percentage.

Poowong play Nilma Darnum at home and Lang Lang play Ellinbank away.

Poowong goal kickers Jack Hazeldonk three, two to Alex Henshall and Steve Mcinnes singles to Will Robertson, Matt Cozzio, Connor Cunningham, Tommy Burgess and Joel Norton. Best Players Joel Norton and Jack Hazendonk both in Best on Ground performances, Steve McInnes, Zac Gray, Charles Koscall and Ben Fowler in his first Senior game has a good future.

Congratulations to Jai Newcombe on 50 AFL games and best on ground performance.
