Flags were flown at half-mast during the week, here on Phillip Island, around Bass Coast and South Gippsland and across the world.

THE Bass Coast Shire Council observed a minutes’ silence at its monthly council meeting last Wednesday, September 21 at the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Bass Coast Mayor Cr Michael Whelan also read a condolence message, on behalf of the council and the people of Bass Coast at the beginning of the meeting.

“On behalf of the Bass Coast Shire Council and our community, we express our sincere condolences to the Royal Family on the sad loss of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second and as a mark of respect we will observe a minute's silence.”

Across the region, and all over the world, flags have been flown at half-mast, not only in front of public buildings but also at various other private and community locations.

The flags can be raised to the top of the mast again at the end of the week.
