POLICE and emergency services have responded to an accident at the Phillip Island Grand Prix motor racing circuit at 9.55am today.

The Bass Coast News is reporting that a man in his 40s was involved in a “high-speed crash” during a public motorcycle ride day at the track.

Ambulance Victoria have since confirmed a man in his 40s was airlifted to The Alfred in a serious condition with lower body injuries.

Locals have reported seeing a number of police cars in the area.

The ride days organized by the Motorcycling Events Group are a regular occurrence at the world-famous track.

It comes little more than a week before the track hosts the next round of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championships which return between February 23 and 25 for the Grand Ridge Brewery Australian Round.
