New kinder almost ready in Newhaven

IN TERM one of 2023, Newhaven Kindergarten at Newhaven Primary School will be in operation. 

Spokesperson for the Department of Education and Training said the new kindergarten service will be managed by Y Kinders – now one of the largest early years management providers in Victoria. 

Newhaven Kinder will be a two-room centre, providing 66 kindergarten places and will open into an outdoor learning and play space, and having the centre built at Newhaven Primary School will help children with a smooth transition into primary school and make drop-off simpler for some families. 

The modular construction began off-site and was delivered onsite to Newhaven in term four of 2021, with final works underway to prepare for the February 2023 opening. 

The funding for this project was in the 2019-2020 budget and shared in the $283 million allocated over four years for three-year-old kindergarten.

The State Government has invested to deliver a full 15 hours of four-year old kinder and 15 hours for three-year-old kinder over the next decade.

State Member for Bass, Jordan Crugnale said having a new kinder on Phillip Island attached to the primary school means it’s a smoother transition to school and families will also save up to $2500 per child per year which helps with the cost-of-living pressures.
