THEY did it!
Year 6 students Isabella Lynch and Lucy Thompson, the dynamic duo from Newhaven College's MTB team, showcased their natural fitness as they secured first and second place in round two of the Alpinestars MTB Schools series held at the picturesque Lysterfield MTB Park last Sunday.
With their unwavering determination, Isabella and Lucy emerged as formidable contenders early on in the race, with Isabella clinching the first-place title and team mate Lucy securing the second spot, after an intense neck-and-neck race that had onlookers on tender hooks throughout.
From the start, Isabella powered off the line with sheer determination, quickly establishing herself as a frontrunner in the U13 girls category.
Representing Newhaven College with pride, Isabella dominated throughout the race leading from start to finish.
This has surpassed her previous best result in last year’s series at You Yangs MTB Park where she placed third.
“I had so much fun riding along the rocky and challenging terrain at Lysterfield Park. I was so proud to represent the Newhaven College MTB team and to ride alongside Lucy Thompson throughout the race. Crossing the finish line with my best mate was the highlight of the day! I really hope to see more girls out on the tracks racing and giving Mountain Biking a go”, Isabella said after the race.
Other notable performances were Hugo Wright who crossed the line in fifth place in the U13s Boys, Austin Mitchell and Austin Lynch who placed sixth and seventh respectively in the U9 Boys, Thomas Courtney who placed seventh in the U17 Boys, and Miller Micallef who placed tenth in the U13 Boys.
With round two of the Alpinestars MTB Schools series now wrapped up, the Newhaven College MTB team is already is focusing on the next event which is to be held at the You Yangs in two
weeks’ time.
