NEWHAVEN College has once again emerged victorious after securing two of the top spots in Round 3 of the Alpinestars VIC Schools MTB Series, held at the You Yangs MTB park on Sunday, August 6.
With less than a year of competitive riding under his belt, Year 10 student Thomas Courtney rode through to victory claiming first place on the podium in the U17 novice boys category. In a field of sixteen riders, Thomas wasted no time in demonstrating his strength and natural abilities, overtaking his competitors during the final lap and propelling himself forward to the highly coveted first place.
Year 6 student Lucy Thompson also proved her mettle, clinching first place in the U13 girls novice category, having placed second in the same series at Lysterfield MTB Park only two weeks prior.
In a sport which is often dominated by male riders, young Lucy is proving to be a force to be reckoned with.
Just off the podium in fourth place were both Hamish Dakers-Hock in the U15s and Hugo Wright in the U13s with other notable results from Jude Rigby and Austin Mitchell coming in fifth place in the U13s and U9s.
Round 4 of the 2023 Alpinestars VIC Schools MTB Series is the final round and will be held at Spring Gully on Sunday, September 17, in Bendigo.
