SOUTH Gippsland Shire Council has now confirmed its annual Green Waste Amnesty commences Saturday November 1, giving residents the opportunity to dispose of green waste free of charge at any council transfer station until December 31.
The amnesty encourages property owners to prepare for the upcoming fire season by removing potential fire hazards such as branches, leaves, and garden clippings.
“I encourage everyone to take advantage of the free disposal period and help make South Gippsland safer this summer.” Mayor John Schelling said.
Some plant species and materials are not accepted under the amnesty due to composting limitations.
These include invasive weeds like blackberry and ragwort, as well as items such as palm fronds and tree stumps.
A full list of exclusions is available on council’s website.
