Nyora finishes the season off with a high

THE last game of the season was against Catani as well as being the farewell game for our club legend Nugget Layton.

Thirty years playing 420 senior games for the Nyora Footy Club and that was after his first 10 years of footy playing for Loch.

A life member, past captain, coach, committeeman and an all round great bloke.

It was eighth versus nineth and an even contest was expected.

It started scrappy but our boys began to fire up when Trav Stewart goaled followed by another two quick goals before Trav, who was dominating play, goaled again with a great snap on the run.

Nick Anderson kicked his second goal for the game early in the second quarter but when Jesse Heylen was forced to leave the ground with a head knock, things started to turn Catani’s way.

At half time Nyora held a three-goal advantage.

We came out firing in with 6 quick goals in the first half of the third quarter.

But then Catani dominated the rest of the quarter and when they got the first 3 goals in the last it was game on.

A steadier from Nick Anderson for his seventh goal was followed by Trav Stewart’s third and then another by Jordy sealed the game.

A nail-biting finish saw us win by a goal.

Despite the huge amount of injuries, we had to contend with throughout the season we finished in seventh, with six wins.

Congratulations to Trav Stewart winning the B & F with 67 votes over Dylan Heylen who polled 60 votes (nearly got his seventh senior B & F). Third place went to Jordy Anderson with 38 votes followed by Jack Rosenow with 34.

Reserves:

Fought hard but outplayed by a top five contender.

Better players on the day were Nugget (also a goal), Brad Drews, Shaun Lamb, Brad Welsh and Luke Forscutt.

It has been a tough year for the reserves with the number of injuries and absentees resulting in about 70 players being involved.

To finish the season eighth with 6 wins was a good effort and expect improvement next year.

Congratulations to Shaun Lamb winning the best and fairest by a small margin over Brad Drews.
