Panthers pounce on another win

KILCUNDA-Bass played its best four quarters of the season, resulting in a 34-point win over the Warragul Industrials.

Playing in front of a crowd at home, it was a perfect day for footy with not a breath of wind during the first three quarters.

Kilcunda-Bass started strong and was looking dangerous up front.

The boys played their roles well, freeing up Anthony Daraio to take the lead in front of goal.

Daraio had a whopping seven-goal haul by the final siren.

Goal scoring was a team performance with the effort shared between eight goal-kickers for the day.

First-year Seniors player Owen Thomas had a great game in half forward, earning him a spot in the Panthers’ best.

The Dusties didn’t let them have it easy and demonstrated some accurate kicking.

The Panthers knew the Dusties weren’t going to give it up in a hurry and responded with an impressive defensive game led by Lochlan and Steven Scott.

Another first-year Seniors player Lleyton Cartmel was also put in a defensive role and comfortably did what he had to do to put the pressure on the Dusties.

Kilcunda-Bass had a two-goal lead heading into the second quarter.

The Panthers gained a goal margin each quarter.

Although the game wasn’t breaking open, the Panthers were comfortable with their tactics and continued to put in place the strategies they’d been working on all season.

Having a sensational season, Dale Gawley gave a standout performance in the ruck.

The Panthers were also happy to have captain Nathan Foote back in the lineup after a week off.

Foote was once again an asset in the midfield.

At half time, the Panthers were given an opportunity to re-energise, which produced another solid quarter.

A reminder of the enormity of the game spurred the boys on to fight for what they wanted to achieve.

The fourth quarter had fans on the edge of their seats as the Dusties came back within 16 points of the Panthers.

However, the Panthers were able to adjust and pull away with a decent win.

Kilcunda-Bass will be facing old rivals Phillip Island next week.

Having lost to Phillip Island in round three, Kilcunda-Bass will be throwing everything they’ve got into this game.
