Phelan & Henderson welcomes young talent

ESTABLISHED in 2015, the ongoing success of Leongatha’s Phelan & Henderson & Co livestock and property agency and the buoyant livestock market prompted the recent recruitment of young talent Jake Anthony.

The stock and station agent and auctioneer is delighted to join the business, with the 20-year-old bringing experience as a livestock agent and keen to continue building his knowledge.

Korumburra raised, Jake is excited to be working in South Gippsland and looks forward to developing as an auctioneer.

“I love it, coming from a farming background,” Jake says, having grown up on a beef farm.

His on-farm duties now include marking calves, drafting cattle and valuing livestock.

Jake enjoys assessing the cattle and each farm in order to provide the best advice to farmers.

He’s been made to feel welcome at Phelan & Henderson & Co.

One of the business partners, Simon Henderson spoke about the importance of bringing young talent onboard.

“Our business has now established itself in the local area and with the way it’s going we need some young staff, so we’ve been looking for an A grade young person to join our firm that David and I can train,” Simon said.

He sees that as crucial to ensuring the firm continues to offer the high level of personal service it is built on.

Simon highlighted the faith he and business partner David Phelan have in Jake, and the diversity of his role.

“I need someone that can be an auctioneer, book the sale, judge livestock accurately for buying and selling purposes, be computer literate, able to communicate with clients effectively and buy and sell on online portals,” he said.
