UPDATE: MAJOR Collision Investigation Unit detectives have arrested the male driver following a fatal crash in Cowes last night.
The driver, an 18-year-old St Kilda East man, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
He is assisting police with their enquiries.

MAJOR Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a fatal car crash that claimed the life of a man in Cowes last night.
It is believed a vehicle lost control before crashing into a tree at the intersection of Millennium Way and Justice Road just after 11.30pm.
Five males were in the car at the time of the crash.
One of the passengers, a 19-year-old man from Cowes died at the scene.
The driver and three other males were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police are currently on scene investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and are keen to speak to any witnesses.
