A house on the eastern end of Poowong lost half of its roof at the hieight of the stormy blast.

ONE of the areas hardest hit by the Tuesday afternoon storm was the Poowong-Loch-Nyora area where trees were down across a wide area, the power cut and at least one house in the area lost its roof.

Local resident, Jim Forbes, described the storm front as ferocious.

“It probably only lasted about an hour and a half between 3pm and 5pm but the wind was gusting to extreme levels,” Mr Forbes said.

“Trees are down everywhere, and our power is still out here in Poowong.

“There were trees down on Ogilvy Road, South Road and Loch-Poowong Road and one house, up the factory end of the town lost half of the roof, I sorry to say.

“The locals have been out with tarps and the like helping but it was pretty bad.”

Mr Forbes estimated that only about 8ml of rain fell while other areas closer to Melbourne were hit with a deluge.
