POOWONG travelled to Lang Lang in all four grades with the ground in excellent condition and no rain but a breeze blowing down to the highway end.

Poowong made three changes in Joel Norton, Kurt Newton and Jarvis Brown all in with Andrew Logan missing another week.

Both sides coming off losses and needing a win to stay in touch with the top five.

Poowong kicked to the highway end favoured by the breeze worth probably three or four goals, the game for most of the day was played on the far wing from the rooms.

Poowong started off well with Jack Hazendonk opening Poowongs account followed by a goal to Will Robertson a good start.

Lang Lang came back with a goal from a mark and then kicked out of bounds, Poowong went forward and from a ball up at CHF Connor Cunningham kicked the ball off the ground and it rolled through for a goal.

The second quarter was going to have a big say in the result of the game.

Poowong went forward first and from a mark at CHF scored a point and another attempt hit the point post.

A free kick to Matt Cozzio was across goal the ball was kicked to CHF, where Jack Hazendonk took a great mark and goaled his second.

Lang Lang’s forward thrusts were held by Poowong’s very determined defence which was not giving Lang Lang forwards any room to work.

Poowong made a great start to the third quarter with Connor Cunnigham receiving a 50-metre penalty to kick his second, followed by a goal to Joel Norton to open up a 34-point lead.

Poowong were controlling the ball in their forward line with four shots for three out of bounds and a point, before Jack Hazendonk marked and passed the ball to receive it back for a goal.

Following a point Steve McInnes received a free kick to kick Poowongs fourth for the Quarter and a 48-point lead at three quarter time.

Despite the successes of last season, this was probably one of Poowong’s best performances for a while and all looks well for this young side in the seasons ahead.
