WONTHAGGI and Sale reserves locked heads on Sunday at Warragul for the elimination round in what was a fiercely contested match.

It was do or die for both sides, putting in all they had to secure their spot in the finals.

While the Power wasn’t off to a good start, with nothing to show on the scoreboard for the first quarter, they found their groove during the second.

Wonthaggi managed to even out the score, but Sale was making them pay for every mistake and capitalised on any opportunity they could find.

A stunning mark and subsequent goal by the Power’s Adam Busana saw them close the gap but ultimately the Magpies coordination and accuracy was too much.

The Power started the third with a bang, landing a quick goal followed up by another.

Just as they seemed to be gaining the upper hand, Sale pulled it together and managed to get ahead in the later half of the quarter to remain the leader.

With everything coming down to the last quarter, the match could have easily gone either way.

The Power showed their fierce determination to fight for the win, adding another two goals.

But the Magpies were ultimately just too skilled, using their superb ability to keep the ball away from Wonthaggi’s side and mount on the pressure.

The Power reserves finish the season with 12 wins and six losses, and while disappointed they couldn’t take down Sale, they fought to the very last minute.
