WITH recent crime statistics data reflecting a worrying trend of domestic violence right across Gippsland, I want to highlight an important initiative that is taking place across our region from November 25 through to December 10.

This period marks the annual international 16 Days of Activism campaign which was initiated by the Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991 which aims to prevent gender-based violence by challenging the attitudes that perpetuate and normalise it.

Within Gippsland this important initiative will be recognised by a local Let’s Chat campaign.

The Let’s Chat campaign is supported by over 70 community partners and will see several local events and social media campaigns take place throughout the 16 days.

We all have the power to enact change and the Let’s Chat campaign shows us that it can be as simple as starting a conversation.
