Many community members are aware of the lamentable state of integrity in Victorian politics today.
The Victorian Ombudsman, IBAC, and others have repeatedly raised concerns.
Today, more than ever before, all levels of government need to be scrutinised, and held to account.
Bass Coast Shire Council is certainly no exception to that need.
Since 2016 Bass Coast Ratepayers and Residents Association (BCRRA) has endeavoured improve transparency, accountability, community engagement, and financial discipline at Bass Coast Shire Council.
Whilst BCRRA has had some success, there are some at council who strongly oppose the associations efforts.
In November BCRRA will be holding its 2023 Annual General Meeting and Public Meeting at the Wonthaggi Workmens Club.
The brief AGM will be immediately followed by a public meeting to discuss community expectations of future elected Councillors, and how BCRRA can best pursue its purpose into the future.
The meeting starts at 1.30 pm in the Kirrak Room.
This is an open public meeting and community members are welcome to attend.
All current councillors are invited to attend this event.
Given the ongoing secretive and autocratic behaviour of Bass Coast Shire Council, the need for a representative community ratepayer organisation appears to be more necessary today than it was back when BCRRA was formed in 2016.
NOTE: To assist with determining catering requirements please email intention to attend to admin@basscrra.org.
We hope to see you at the Kirrak Room on November 18.
Kevin Griffin, BCRRA Secretary
