THE South Gippsland Branch of the Victorian Farmers Federation has put in a submission to the South Gippsland Shire Council in response to their second draft of the proposed Local Laws 2024.
The submission is a combined effort of our members...
There are substantial parts of the proposed Local Laws which must give exemptions for the Farming Zone to reduce the amount of red tape that farmers already face.
There are many other requirements which show a lack of understanding of rural work and of the huge contribution that farmers make to the South Gippsland Shire.
Farmers pay large amounts of rates each year. Now the Shire is showing that they like our money but do not respect the work that farmers do to make the money to be able to pay the rates.
Where is the Committee which allows for proper consultation before the proposal goes out to ratepayers?
We are happy to review the current Local Laws if that will assist with the State Government time frame, so that it becomes possible to extend the current Local Laws.
Either way, it is important that the proposed Local Laws become more acceptable to rural ratepayers.
