Sharks lure in the kids

SMILES, laughter and frustration at times filled Tarwin Recreation Reserve on Saturday, February 1, as kids of all ages took to the field and courts for the Tarwin Sharks Family Day.

Not only was the event the perfect opportunity for families to catch up ahead of the forthcoming season, but it was a chance for those new to the area to suss out the club and say hi to not one, but three

AFL stars, Xavier Lindsay (Melbourne), Kade Chandler (Melbourne) and Tom Hanily (Sydney).

Assisted by senior players, the junior squad in training ran through football drills on the recreation reserve before splitting up with some heading to the netball courts and others remaining on the football oval.

“It’s early on in the piece, but we’d love to welcome new people to the club,” Club President Nick McRae smiled.

“It’s a great opportunity to get the kids active and introduce them to football and netball, with drills running both on the football field and (later) on the netball courts.”

The football drills were coordinated on the day by Gippsland Power’s very own under 18 assistant coach, Craig McCaughan, who put the juniors through their paces with pushups, marks, tackles, kicks and more.

With plenty of space the Tarwin Sharks are looking forward to welcoming new families and individuals this season.

“Everyone is welcome to reach out whether for netball or football.”

There would certainly have been a few stories at school yesterday, let’s face it, it’s not every day you get to take a specky off Lindsay’s back!
