THE Premier Jacinta Allan is making her first visit as premier to South Gippsland today, but she could certainly have arrived in better circumstances.
Ms Allan met with community and emergency services at the Mirboo North Fire Station at 10.30am today to receive a briefing of the damage caused when a cyclone-like storm cell cut a 1.5km swathe through the town in little over a minute last Tuesday afternoon.
The storm brought down thousands of trees in the leafy-green town, and with it, dozens of powerlines, damaging an untold number of homes, buildings and facilities.

When told of how fast and hard the storm arrived, Premier Allan acknowledged how “scary” it must have been for all who experienced the incident.
“For about four or five minutes it was mayhem,” said one of the local CFA volunteers who met with the Premier before she gave a brief address.
Ms Allan had already toured part of the town to see the damage caused, and the response that is going on and was emotional in her praise of the resilience of the local people, and also the emergency services personnel and contractors who have responded in big numbers.
