FAMILIES, players and coaches gathered to celebrate the growth and development of all participants in the South Gippsland Junior Volleyball program at its recent presentation night.

The program attracts players from across the South Gippsland and Bass Coast Shires and continues to grow under the leadership of coaches Mike Munday, Liselott Webster, Brock Churchill and Chris Axford.

Coach Mike congratulated all players for their commitment to training and improving their skills and, just as importantly, recognised their commitment to supporting each other, cheering wildly and having fun.

This season, six players were recognised for outstanding achievements:

• Antonella Sepulveda Olmedo – Leadership Award

• Jeffrin Mathew – Best Teammate Award, Attendance Award

• Amelia Hams - Most Improved Award, Attendance Award

• Jessica Churchill – Encouragement Award

• Remy Jans – Encouragement Award

• Alyssa Dennis – Most Improved Award

• Declan Beech – Attendance Award

Club President Rob Parkes thanked the coaches and volunteers that support the Junior volleyball program.

The presentation night topped off a busy season for the Junior program.

Recently, representative junior teams shone at the Mornington Volleyball Junior Victoria Open tournament and Maroondah Spikezone Tournament.

Many juniors were hosted by the Melbourne Vipers at its Australian Volleyball League home game and several players have taken the next step to trial for the intensive Gippsland Sports Academy volleyball program and have been accepted for the 2022/23 season.

The more experienced Juniors are making significant contributions to both A Grade and B Grade open competitions within the club and have performed especially well through club finals.

The Junior Program trains at Splash Leongatha from 6.00 – 7.15 pm on Thursday’s during school terms.

Registrations are open for 2023. To stay informed or to register, email southgippslandvolleyball@outlook.com or follow South Gippsland Volleyball Club on Facebook and Instagram.
