Sunny skies for the Breakers
The Bass Coast Breakers wore blue arm bands as part of TAC & AFL Victoria Road Safety Round.

WITH sunny spring like weather there was a feeling of finals in the air and the even contest in the first quarter certainly lived up to that with two goals apiece.

While Karingal were able to utilise their speed in the first quarter the Breakers backline did a great job of pushing back in the second. The midfield worked hard with Siena Lane and Kate Thompson clearing it out of the packs and Sophie Bolding and Tess Wingfield making the most of the wide wings.

With just a one-point lead at half time the Breakers more experienced players stepped it up a notch in the third quarter with Kelly O’Neill and Immy Bradford proving dangerous around goal and Chelsea Connell using her strength to drive the ball forward.

The defence end held strong with Brooke Whiteside and Tess Angarane attacking off half back and Jac Van Rooy winning some important one-on-ones inside 50.

A four goal to one quarter gave the Breakers a bit of breathing space but they couldn’t relax with Karingal still fighting hard in the last.

In what was a great team effort the Breakers will look to build on their performance with a solid four quarters next week.

Final score: Breakers 7.6-48 def Karingal 4.3-27

Goals: K.O’Neill 4, I.Bradford 2, G.Matser

Best: K.O’Neill, S.Lane, C.Connell, S.Bolding, I.Bradford, T.Angarane

This week was the TAC AFL Victoria Road Safety Round. The club has really embraced the round and road safety in general with the team participating in a road safety quiz after training on Wednesday night.

Questions focused on the TAC’s target areas of Speeding, Drink Driving, Distractions and Vehicle safety. We also had a visit from the Wonthaggi Police at training – they have been involved throughout the year helping deliver road safety messages.

We are a club that has been significantly impacted by road trauma and will continue to raise safety awareness and do our best to ensure we are not affected again.

Next week we travel to Seaford to take on the Tigerettes at 2pm on Saturday. If you can’t make it, the match will be live streamed via the South East Women’s Football website. Keep an eye on our socials for a link.
