That’s gold! 'Paul The Pieman' scores 10 out of 10

THE official industry event for 2023, the Australia's Best Pie and Pastie Competition, put on by Baking Association of Australia, has just wrapped up in Sydney and Inverloch’s Paul The Pieman owners and operators, Paul and Robyn Woods have come away as one of the big winners.

In fact, from the 10 pies they entered in the Australia-wide event, during the BAA’s annual Industry Trade Show at Sydney’s Wentworth Park Hotel, they received 10 awards – one gold, seven silvers and two broinze.

But the big one, the gold, was for one of their newest pies - Smokey Beef, Jalapeño & Cheese.

And getting a silver for their plain pie, in the blue riband event for bakers, was quite an achievement as well.

“The Smokey Beef, Jalapeño & Cheese has been really popular, especially in the cooler weather for a bit of a warm-up. It’s been great,” said Inverloch Paul The Pieman manager Lyn McCarthy.

“We’ve got to give most of the credit to Doug McDonald and Mitch Woods for their creation but the whole team is responsible for the presentation and that’s important as well.

“We’re just delighted to get the recognition. Come in and give it a try.”

Their awards are as follows:

• Gold - Smokey Beef, Jalapeño & Cheese
• Silver - Plain Pie
• Silver - Garlic Prawn
• Silver - Brisket, Mac N Cheese
• Silver - Creamy Mushroom
• Silver - Korean BBQ Sauce
• Silver - Buffalo, Mac N Cheese
• Silver - Mediterranean Vegetable
• Bronze - Chunky Beef
• Bronze - Traditional Pastie

“A big thanks to our production team for their efforts over the last week just getting our entries ready for the trip to Sydney. It’s been a big effort, but it’s been worth it.

“All winning pies will be available this weekend,” said Lyn.

Jojo's Wholesale Bakery at Kernot also picked up some medals for Jojo's Gluten Free Thai Chicken (silver) and Jojo's Gluten Free pie (silver).
