THERE was a strong community turn out for Remembrance Day at Wonthaggi with a solemn service to honour those lost in all conflicts.
The day was made possible thanks to the efforts of Wonthaggi RSL, with president Dan Lucas stepping up to take on the task.
Mr Lucas was proudly wearing his grandfather’s World War Two medals, as well as his own on the day.
Unfortunately the scourge of COVID was still present, which forced the original MC and chaplain to withdraw from the event.
Rod Gallagher stepped in last minute to MC the service, who delivered a passionate speech about the impact of World War One on the shire and nation.
While Bass Coast College student Chloe Lawson proudly recited ‘In Flanders Field’.
Many community members and organisations also participated in the laying of wreaths including local police, CFA and nearby schools.
A light lunch was then held at Wonthaggi RSL.
It was also mentioned that Inverloch RSL will be holding a luncheon next Wednesday, November 16, at 12pm for anyone interested in attending.
