POOWONG travelled to Nilma Darnum on Saturday with overcast skies and the ground soft from previous rain which had no effect on the football with great atmosphere between both clubs.
It was a danger game for Poowong especially after Nilma’s match against Nyora last round, the players were determined to win their third game in a row and retain fifth spot on the ladder. Poowong were without Connor Cunningham for this game but welcomed back Steve McInnes from injury.
Poowong kicked to the Warragul end and were soon off the mark with a goal to Micah Williames. After a couple of points Alex Henshall grabbed the ball and goaled on the run, Nilmas determination resulted in their first goal after a mark a CHF.
Poowong came back with two good goals to Mitch DeKleuver followed by Tom Robertson goaling from a long kick and when Jarvis Brown marked at CHF and kicked his first goal for the Club opening up a thirty-point lead at quarter time.
The second quarter started with Will Robertson goaling from the boundary, Jack Hazendonks long kick was rushed through, Nilma had a purple patch and added three goals four including a poster opening up the game.
Poowong came back with goals to Mitch Molloy and two goals to Mitch De Kleuver taking his tally to four, Nilma had a couple of more chances but minor scores resulted.
Poowong’s defence were playing well but occasionally they let themselves down with their passing, in most football this can lead to a goal, something you cannot afford in games.
Poowong were one down with Joel Norton out with a shoulder.
The third quarter opened with Poowong kicking two goals early Steven McInnes from the HFF and Micah Williames picking up a loose ball for a goal, Nilma came back with two goals one from a 50-metre penalty and the other from general play.
The fourth quarter started with Nilma working hard for two goals, one bounced through the other from a mark in the square, Poowong lifted and managed three goals the first to Jack Hazendonk followed by Will Robertson and finished off by Mitch Molloy kicking his third.
Poowong with their third win in a row have moved two games and percentage clear in fifth position nearing the half way point of the season.
Saturday is a big day at home with a players’ reunion for teams with premierships in years finishing in 3 and 8 together with an important game of football against Catani, who won against Nyora on Saturday.
