Two local riders in upcoming Surfing Titles on the Island
Phillip Island surfers Evie Lutz and Angus Kennedy (pictured) from Cowes will be competing on their home waves at the upcoming Surfing Titles.

THE WOOLWORTHS Australian Junior Surfing Titles will be held on Phillip Island from Saturday November 25 to Sunday December 3. 

Winners of the Under 16 and Under 18 Junior men and women will earn a spot on the Irukandjis’ Team to represent Australia at the ISA World Junior Championships. 

The upcoming event is mobile and may include Cape Woolamai, Smiths Beach, Right Point (Cat Bay), the Penguin Parade and Flynns Reef. 

A variety of conditions is expected with waves in the 3–6 foot range and water temperatures of approximately 16–20 degrees celsius. 

Phillip Island surfers Evie Lutz and Angus Kennedy from Cowes will be competing on their home waves at the upcoming Surfing Titles. 

Angus, aged 12, is ranked fifth in the state and rides an Island Ringa NXT. He had a Groms lesson with Island Surfboards before starting school.

“I loved it and I've been hooked ever since,” said Angus said whose favourite surf trips were Indonesia and Snapper Rocks. 

Morgan Cibilic and Mikey Wright are Angus’ favourite surfers and his favourite local wave to surf is “Wooli on a good day”.

What does Angus love most about surfing? “Every wave is different and unpredictable. Days in the surf are never alike.”

Evie is 13-years-old and ranked fourth in the state and started surfing after watching her uncle (Stuey Campbell) and other locals like Joe (van Dijk) in the surf, “It looked like a lot of fun,” she said. 

Evie’s favourite surf trip was to Lennox Head and favourite surfer is Mick Fanning. Evie rides a Channel Islands Happy Everyday board and her favourite local wave to surf is Woolamai. 

What does Evie love most about surfing? “It's a great break from the everyday.”
