I’VE knocked on over 1000 doors in Inverloch so far in my campaign for local council and there is overwhelming support for the shared-path to the surf beach. However, residents are clearly not happy with the council’s current idea of making Surf Parade one-way.
The only patrolled surf beach in Inverloch should have an accessible path. It’s upsetting to see parents with young kids still having to walk on the road so long after the community voted for this project.
The council’s latest idea of making Surf Parade one-way is just another delay tactic. The sensible option is to build the final stage of the path without the parking spaces, and the small reduction in parking will be quickly balanced out by more people choosing to access the beach via the new path.
If you shut off Surf Parade, drivers will use Lohr Avenue instead, a brick road not designed for heavy traffic.
Those who hope for two lanes of road, parking, plus a path and protected vegetation are also swimming against the tide. The State Government’s environmental regulator, DEECA, has comprehensively ruled out the removal of any more coastal vegetation due to the risk of erosion.
Councillors past and present haven’t been able to deliver it, but I’m determined to get it done finally.
