SUE Cartwright and Gerry Kool travelled to Drouin on the weekend March 4- 5, to participate in their level play doubles tournament.
Nine pairs contested each of the two sections making it two very long (and hot) days.
They managed 4 out of 4 wins on day one and 3 out of 4 wins on day two.
Their only hiccup being a 5/4 loss with the game timed out. A great effort to finish on top with the husband and wife team of Heather and Roger Bradbury from Bairnsdale, finishing runners-up with 6 wins and 2 losses.
The weekend before, Wonthaggi Club hosted a level play singles tournament with players from Benalla, Leongatha, Mornington, Drouin, Morwell, Sale, Phillip Island, Ringwood, Queenscliff and Drysdale. A great turnout.
Winner of section 1 was Garry Daley (Drysdale) from John Mitchell (Lakes Entrance) and the winner of section 2 was Claire Earl (Phillip Island) from Bob Quale (Drouin).
The internal annual President v Secretary challenge was held on March 7.
A couple of cancellations meant that the President and Secretary (much to their chagrin) actually had to play to make up the numbers.
This year the secretary’s team prevailed by winning 5 games to 4. Congratulations to them and all those who participated to create a fun day.
The new clubrooms are going ahead in leaps and bounds and the excitement is building as each day goes by.
With these much improved facilities, scheduled to be finished sometime in August, it will give the club better opportunities to attract new members.
Don’t forget, club days are Monday (4.00pm to whenever during daylight savings), Wedesday and Saturday from 10.00am. We welcome anyone to come and have a try. See our web site for contact details.
