WHAT happened at the (Bass Coast) mayoral election was unbelievable. For Cr Geoff Ellis to nominate Cr Rochelle Halstead for mayor, and then to vote against her in the election was unfathomable.
According to Bass Coast Councillor Code of Conduct adopted on February 17, 2021: Page 4. Standards of Conduct: A Councillor must, in performing the role of a Councillor, treat other Councillors, members of Council staff, the municipal community and members of the public with dignity, fairness, objectivity, courtesy and respect (Cr Ellis failed).
Page 5 (2). In performing the role of a Councillor, a Councillor must not deliberately mislead the Council or the public about any matter related to the performance of their public duties (Cr Ellis failed).
And those who unduly pressured Geoff Ellis, as confided to me by Geoff on November 11, at the Remembrance Service in Grantville, should also be condemned. It would appear that they’ve got their way but there is also a conflict of interest here, which should have been declared.
Something caused Cr Ellis to change his mind, and the matter should be investigated. There is no integrity or transparency and accountability as required by regulators and expected by ratepayers.
