THE community rallied together on Saturday afternoon in support of local 10-year-old boy Byron Humphry, who willingly took on the World’s Greatest Shave and raised $11,774.05.
Byron was known for his well-groomed mullet but after growing his hair for the past two years Byron made the decision to take on the mission of shaving his head for blood cancer, donating his hair to the organisation, Wigs for Kids.
In support of Byron’s courageous choice, local businesses honoured the cause by donating raffle prizes and supplying products, and vouchers for silent auctions throughout the afternoon; including,
Phillip Island Winery, San Remo Hotel, The Wooli Tavern, Mario’s restaurant, the Wash Shop, Silverwater Resort, San Remo butcher, Latitude Trading, Cape Winds, the Middle Korumburra Hotel, the Westernport Hotel, Fisherman’s Co-Op, Bass Strait Direct, Bean’d, Gippsland Coffee Roasters, Island Equipment Hire, and Always Cool Air-Conditioning.

Entertained with live music by The Laing Brothers at the San Remo hotel and with owner of Beachside Hair and Beauty, Kim generously donating her time, brave shavers, Sean McWilliams, Ian Glass, Jack, Uncle Mal, Kirk, and Byron all took on the mission to shave.
“I started an online campaign and raised $4060 on my Greatest Shave account and on Saturday in cash our family and friends donated $7714.05, thank you so much to the community for supporting me, with your generosity we can help those affected by blood cancer,” said Byron.
Byron’s parents Tammy and Kirk Humphry were overwhelmed by the support of the local community, reaching deep into their pockets, and supporting a young boy’s decision to help others.
