Brazen theft of town centre bells

IT WAS a shock for Cowes locals after discovering the four bells that form the ‘Harmony Bells’ artwork were gone on Monday morning (July 12).
The bells had been on display at the Cowes Town Square since 2012, and are made of bronze, which would have made removal rather difficult and required significant effort.
Police believe the bells were stolen sometime overnight on the weekend of July 10, and it appeared the offenders had used a heavy-duty angle grinder to remove them.
Police were continuing investigations into the incident.
Anyone who witnessed any unusual or suspicious activity over the weekend of July 10 should contact Cowes Police Station on 5952 2037 or Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
