NERRENA has defeated MDU in the closest game of the LDCA season, holding on by a solitary run at Dumbalk.

The Red Caps batted first, and it was Ben Croatto 29 and Cameron Baudinette 33 who worked them into a respectable position.

However, MDU’s bowlers got back on top, restricting Nerrena to 8/125 after 35 overs.

MDU chase got off to a horror start, but John Phillips and captain Dale Thomas came to the rescue.

After being 4/31, they put on a 93-run partnership to bring them right within reaching distance.

In a devastating climax, their partnership ended on the last ball of the day when MDU needed only one run to tie.

Phillips was caught on 40, Thomas finished on 49* and their score finished on 5/124.

Early wickets no worries for Wonthaggi

WONTHAGGI Club has overcome a flurry of early wickets and secured a four wicket win over Inverloch.

The Stingrays won the toss and batted at Inverloch Recreation Reserve and Warren Stewart 30 and Riley Harris 25 started to build some momentum in the top order.

But after they were dismissed, there wasn’t much more to offer, and Inverloch finished at 7/100 after 35 overs.

Liam Sawyer 46* started Wonthaggi’s chase beautifully but his first three partners all fell for a duck.

Luckily Luke McGuirk 23 and Lachie Witt 21 didn’t follow suit and Wonthaggi got past the Stingrays with three overs to spare and four wickets in hand.

Burra bowlers beat OMK

KORUMBURRA has their bowlers to thank after defending 110 against OMK at Digger Park on Saturday.

The Cobras batted first and if it wasn’t for a 45 from captain Tim Morrison, they would’ve finished nowhere near their final total of 9/110.

OMK soon started their chase promisingly, with captain Patrick Beadel 25 getting away early.

George Lomagno 26 also started to pierce the field, but it wasn’t long until Korumburra’s bowlers took control and turned the game on its head.

Vibhu Gupta, Charlie Carew and Maddison Cavigan all took three wickets and suddenly OMK were all out for 95, falling 15 runs short of Korumburra.

Fusinato feasts on Town attack

PHILLIP Island opener David Fusinato has belted 80 runs off 84 balls to give his side a comfortable win over Town in C2.

Fusinato was seeing them well from ball one, and he was helped along by Tyce Kleverkamp 32 as the Sharks made their way past 150.

Once those two were dismissed there wasn’t a lot of wag in the tail and they finished at 9/178, but Town struggled from the get-go.

Tim Cashin 47 went well opening the batting for Town, but he received minimal support from his teammates, and they were eventually all out for 102.

Daniel Caffieri had a day to remember with the ball, taking 6/19 off five overs.

Glen Alvie a bit too good for Koony Blue

GLEN Alvie has comfortably knocked off Koonwarra L/RSL Blue, thanks to a well-rounded bowling performance at Wonthaggi Recreation Reserve.

Koonwarra batted first and the extras (23) were their highest score by far, with only one batter making it to 10.

Jack Brown led a very strong bowling attack, taking 3/4 off five and Koonwarra finished all out on 66.

And when it was the home sides turn to bat, there weren’t many issues, only losing three wickets before passing them in the 18th over.

Mannning, Kenter cruise to victory against Koony Gold

PHILLIP Island has cruised to an easy victory against Koonwarra L/RSL Gold off the back of a big partnership from John Manning and Todd Kenter.

The Sharks batted first, and they were ticking along steadily, but the runs really started flowing when Manning and Kenter teamed up.

Manning eventually was bowled on 66 and Kenter finished unbeaten on 56*, bringing Phillip Island to 4/170.

Will Cashin 24 and Brodie Cary 20 found some runs in the middle order for Koonwarra, but Phillip Island’s bowling attack was too strong, and they finished at 8/99 after 35 overs.
