COSY Homes is reminding those struggling with energy bills to apply for the state government’s one-off $250 Power Saving Bonus program, which ends on January 31.
Those eligible include households receiving payments through the Pension Concession, JobSeeker, Austudy, Abstudy or Youth Allowance programs, or who hold a Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card.
The program provides a $250 payment to those who need it most, with the payment typically transferred electronically into bank accounts or provided by cheque on request.
Cosy Homes coordinator Jessica Harrison said the organisation is there to assist residents with their energy bills and find the best provider.
“We are local volunteers who are offering 30 Bass Coast homes free energy assessments,” she said.
“After the assessment, we can do a follow-up visit and install free draught-proofing and low-cost improvements to your home, so it is cooler in summer and cosy in winter.
“When we visit, we can check your power bill to make sure you are on the best deal.
“This offer is for renters and homeowners with concession cards.
“We are COVID-safe, fully vaccinated and can only come to households where residents are vaccinated.”
Volunteers can also assist residents in applying for the $250 one-off energy payment until the program ends.
Jessica said the organisation also plans to hold two community events at Corinella and Cowes in the coming months, where they can offer face-to-face advice.
The Cosy Homes project is run by the Energy Innovation Co-op and is supported by the state government through the Regional Climate Change Adaption Strategy 2021-2022.
