IT HAS been a very hectic couple of weeks with us moving shops, but it’s finally done and we are very happy with the result.

Going forward it’s now business as usual, open 7 days a week, 8am to 5pm weekdays and 6am to 5pm weekends.

It’s back and going to be bigger and better than ever, Royal Children’s Good Friday Appeal Fishing competition.

We are currently locking in sponsors but one big announcement we can make is that we have a new sponsor on board, and we will have a section for pelagic species, Kingfish and Tuna.

There will be more to come over the next couple of weeks but if the hull of your boat is looking a bit ordinary and could do with a brighten up then this one is for you.

We will have all the usual sections and plenty of giveaways over the weekend and again 100 per cent of your entry fee will be donated.

Fishing reports this time of the year are always all over the place with the return to school, considerably lowering the number of fishermen and unsettled weather that is changing between summer and autumn.

Especially this year the weather has been like a broken clock, stuck in the one spot which has unfortunately been the east. We have also had the closure of the Newhaven boat ramp restricting access to launch your boat.

Calamari reports have been consistent, but the numbers have slowed considerably and a session that produces 3 or 4 is a good one at the moment.

High tide on the beaches and the reports from the jetties has been mixed, with some preferring high tide while others prefer low tide but either way not a lot of difference.

Whiting reports have probably been the best although numbers did drop off there a little over the full moon.

Not a lot of whiting reports from the land which isn’t that unusual.

Snapper reports have disappeared but again nothing too unusual for this time of the year, with the pinkies flooding the bay and we will only now see the odd resident snapper being caught.

Bigger gummies are not really showing up in the bay and the best we have seen is around the 4kg mark, while offshore we have seen several of the 10kg plus models.

Tuna is still there, and I could write 3 pages on what has been caught over the last fortnight alone and we were still getting reports over the weekend.

Drop your lures just as you leave the entrance and head towards the windmills working the 15m to 30m line.
