WONTHAGGI Pony Club frantically prepared for their recent annual camp which was a resounding success.

With this year falling on January 2, it meant very little business days to organise deliveries and services.

The camp had 90 riders aged 8-66 from far and wide across Gippsland including Bairnsdale as well as metropolitan Melbourne and Williamstown.

The club had approximately 300 people camping. Some in their horse floats, tents, swags and caravans.

Nine professional instructors were employed to coach, who are very highly regarded in the professional horse industry.

Instructors included Adam Wootten, Mark Griffiths, Antony Bartlett, Matt Archibald, Brooke McLaren, Emily Hill, Ethan Height, Bec Ham and Andy Rouget.

The lessons focused on the three disciplines of Horse Trials: Dressage, Show Jumping and Cross Country.

“I learnt about horse recovery rates and warm up techniques for cross country from Ethan Height. He explained ATP (Adenosine triphosphate) a source of energy and recovery within two-minutes of fit horses. I also found the camp invaluable for bonding with my new horse,” participant Bryn (aged 15) said.

“Wonthaggi Pony Club camp was an extremely fun experience; the instructors were fantastic and I learnt so much. I was on a new horse that I had only owned for a few weeks and the camp really pushed us to work together as a team, and my confidence and skill set has grown immensely,” participant Zoe (aged 19) added.

“We were also lucky enough to have a stall at the event promoting our families new business venture ‘RW Equestrian’ which is a small business selling equestrian clothing.”

“A big thank you to the members of Wonthaggi Pony Club, the instructors, riders and all the volunteers who made the camp such an incredible experience with memories that I will cherish for many years to come.”

The club is open and welcome new members.

They have Horse Trials event coming up February 17-18, run by Suzanne and Carly Heislers.

They are the only single club in the West Gippsland Zone running a Horse Trials this year.
