DISCRETION was the better part of valour when CFA fire crews attended the scene of a house blaze at Pound Creek earlier today (Monday, July 7).

According to police, because of the presence of asbestos, CFA crews held off dousing the old cement sheet and corrugated-iron structure for fear of airborne contaminants.

“It was a structure fire, an old farm house but because of the presence of asbestos, they’ve held off fighting the fire and decided to let it burn,” said LSC Michael Thomas.

“They’ve stayed on the scene but there was no risk of the fire spreading to other structures and no injuries,” he said.

The scene of the blaze was about 3km east of the Pound Creek Fire Station, on Inverloch-Venus Bay Road. The fire alarm was raised at about 3pm.
