Bowling masterclass in U17 Grand Final
The Imperials put on a spectacular display on Sunday winning this year’s under 17 Premiership Cup. Back, from left, Coach Jack Ginnane, Eamon Berryman, Charlie Bickerton, Archie Casey, Noah McLennan, Easwaramahadev Gundlapalli, Connor Richards and Isaac Bolge. Front, Clayton Quaife, Archie Gannon, Klayton McGrath and Kade Berryman. Absent: Sam Holt.

THE U17 Grand Final followed the trend of the Finals Series where runs have been hard to come by with Inverloch 60 defeated by Imperials/Nerrena 4/63.

Inverloch won the toss and elected to bat but soon found themselves in trouble when in form young quick Archie Gannon dismissed both Inverloch stars Rhys Newman and Riley Harris.

Archie Terlich was then joined by Cooper Newman at the crease, and they really worked hard to regain some momentum.

Terlich top scored with 21 while Newman contributed 10 runs.

Unfortunately, the loss of those boys and the relentless bowling from Archie Casey (Player of the Match) 4/15 and Klayton McGrath 3/17 saw Inverloch bowled out cheaply. It was a brilliant display of bowling from the Imperials/Nerrena team.

Needing early wickets Keely Dennerley sparked Inverloch with a great caught and bowled and then when Rhys Newman found the edge of McGrath’s willow it was game on.

Kade Berryman and Clayton Quaife then batted with great maturity to all but seal the win and with an Archie Gannon straight drive the victory was delivered in a great performance by the Imps/Nerrena team.

Congratulations to both teams on great seasons, so many talented young cricketers that will be great players for their clubs for many years. Once again there was a great crowd in attendance supporting the players.

Thank you to umpires Ash Stride and Ian Salmon for supporting Junior Cricket, Leongatha Town Cricket Club for hosting the Grand Final and Paul The Pieman for their continued support of Junior Cricket.
