A Grade, Division 1

A DOMINANT display from Mitchell Clark demonstrated why Nerrena is on top of the ladder at the tail end of the home and away season.

Nerrena took on OMK at the Outtrim Recreation Oval on Saturday.

The Red Caps began their successful day with a winning toss, choosing to bat first.

Although opening batsman Loc Roberts was lost early for three runs, the partnership of Jack Curtis and Tadgh Gannon performed well and put 43 and 37 runs on the board respectively.

Fifth bat Clark changed the stakes of the game, stepping in to make an impressive 144 not out.

Tailender Mitchell Croatto contributed a whopping 93 runs to end the innings, creating quite a challenge for OMK to try to overcome this weekend.

For OMK, Ryan Williams had the most bowling success, taking 3/83.

Jacob and Ethan Lamers claimed two wickets each.

Nerrena’s eye watering tally was 8/350.

OMK will have its turn at bat this weekend.

Alex goes big

Alexander Geyer also had a strong performance for Wonthaggi Club.

Playing against Korumburra at Wonthaggi’s home ground, Mitch Thomas and Geyer opened the batting and looked to be unmoveable.

Thomas made 74 runs before he was caught by Mitch Young off the bowling of Shane Dole.

Geyer was joined at the crease by captain Joel Brann, who made 46 runs before he was bowled by Mustafa Nader.

Korumburra failed to dismiss Geyer, who amassed 133 not out.

With Club setting the target at 3/282, Korumburra will bat this weekend.

Wright on target

Despite Imperials vice-captain Lachie Wright claiming four wickets, Phillip Island managed to make 10/192 on Saturday.

Phillip Island welcomed the Imperials to the Cowes Recreation Reserve, where the Imperials won the toss and chose to field.

Opening batsman Lachlan Cleeland was dismissed by Isaac Bolge for 14 runs, leaving Kurt Lane and Brodie Johnston to work together to put up Phillip Island’s best scores for the day.

Lane made 37 runs before a catch from Timothy Sauvarin off the bowling of Wright sent him off, and Johnston made the top score of 39 runs before his wicket fell to Sauvarin, thanks to a catch from Luke Rogers.

Kohen Beaumont added 25 runs to the scoreboard.

As well as Wright, Sauvarin also had a good day bowling for the Imperials, taking 3/37.

The Imperials had the opportunity to open their account.

Phillip Island bowler George McCausland dismissed the opening partnership of captain Jack Ginnane and Kane Maskell for two and six runs respectively.

Klayton McGrath and Bolge were at the crease at stumps and will continue their innings this Saturday.

The score sits at 2/10 off nine overs.
