B Grade, Division 1

WONTHAGGI Club is looking to see out the 2024/25 home and away season in a big way with a massive score of 7/369 over MDU.

A humble start to the innings at the Dumbalk Recreation Reserve led to fourth bat Lochlan McLean smashing 101 runs.

He was ultimately caught by Glenn Casey off the bowling of captain Tyrone Zukovskis, but the floodgates had been opened.

Jason O’Reilly added 46 runs, and tailenders Heath Dobbie and Mohamed Ashik Mohamed Nizar made 75 and 54 respectively.

Dobbie and Mohamed Nizar were not out at the end of the innings.

Jake Palmer was MDU’s top bowler, taking 4/36.

Three wickets were claimed by Zukovskis.

MDU will be looking to chase Club’s score on Saturday.

OMK sights on outright victory

OMK claimed a first innings win from Korumburra at the Outtrim Recreation Oval.

Korumburra won the toss and chose to bat.

OMK’s Mitchell Andrew and Russ White dismissed the first three batsmen, but fourth bat Aaron Damon managed to put a crucial 48 runs on the board.

The OMK bowlers controlled the remainder of the innings.

Bowling honours went to Ben Maguire with 3/6; White and Andrew took two each.

Korumburra was bowled out with a score of 10/76.

OMK opened its innings, sending in captains Adam Busana and Kris Kerr.

Busana made 50 runs before he was caught by Philip Richards off the bowling of Jayden Douglas and Kerr was not out at stumps.

White added 19 runs to OMK’s final score.

For Korumburra, Douglas and McKinnon took two wickets each. 

OMK made 4/150 and will be chasing an outright win this weekend.

Taberner’s 140 powers Inverloch

A WHOPPING 140-run haul from Walter Taberner pushed Inverloch’s score to 10/209 against top-of-the-table Nerrena.

Eventually dismissed by Damien Symmons, the initially shell-shocked Red Caps picked up the pace and dramatically slowed the run rate.

So much so that the next best scores were captain Brett Debono’s 18 runs and 16 runs from Greg Eddy.

Symmons claimed 4/38 for the innings and two wickets each went to Ryan Clark and Jaxon Checkley.

The Red Caps will respond this Saturday.

Phillip Island had the final round bye. 

B Grade, Division 2

Imperials ready to claim victory 

THE Imperials are hunting down Koonwarra L/RSL’s score after bowling the Cougars out 10/99 on Saturday.

Koonwarra L/RSL won the toss at its home ground and chose to bat.

Glenn Boxall opened the account with 16 runs, and Benjamin Heppell and Louis Read contributed 18 and 17 runs respectively.

Nigel Grimes managed the top score of 24 runs towards the bottom of the batting order.

Lucas Anderson was the Imperials’ best bowler, claiming 4/22.

Three wickets were taken by Martin Reidy.

Koonwarra L/RSL was forced to end its innings in the 44th over.

The Imperials were able to face 23 overs. Kane Maskell opened and made 28 runs alongside Mark Lafferty, who made 13 runs. Kristian Gray contributed 15 runs.

Louis Read dismissed Imperials captain Samuel Vagg for a duck, and Gary Sauvarin and James Forrester made five and eight runs respectively.

Both were not out at stumps.

Read claimed two wickets and singles were taken by Matthew Boswell and Nick Arnup.

With a score of 4/79, the Imperials continue their innings on Saturday. 

Foster fires with 242

IN A top-of-the-table showdown, second-placed Foster made 10/242 against ladder leader Leongatha Town.

Foster won the toss at home and chose to bat.

Town bowlers Levi Hickey and Luke Ashton dismissed the opening partnership, but it was third bat Neil Henry who made the difference for Foster.

Henry made 55 runs before he was also bowled by Ashton.

Donald Caldwell and Tim Garvey added 26 and 37 runs respectively.

Brett Gay rounded out the innings with 41 runs before he also fell victim to Hickey.

Hickey had a day out, claiming 5/64. Town will have the opportunity to bat on Saturday. 

Nyora’s chase begins

GLEN Alvie is looking to defend 10/204 against Nyora.

Nyora won the toss at its home ground but decided to let Glen Alvie bat first.

Steven Smith opened well with 27 runs, but fellow opening batsman Glenn Moore was lost for a duck.

Fourth and fifth bats Jack Brown and captain Darcy Hale saw Glen Alvie pick up steam again, making 38 and 60 runs respectively.

Hale’s 60 was the top score.

Another 30 runs were added by Raphael Spiteri-Stevens.

Mitch Rowe was Nyora’s top bowler, taking 3/29.

Lincoln Brock and Benn Hayes took two wickets each.

Glen Alvie was bowled out after 58 overs.

Nyora opened its account and faced 12 overs, amassing 2/40.

Aaron Thompson made 28 runs – including five fours – before Brown claimed his wicket.

Captain Lochie Rowe was dismissed by Hale for six runs.

Brock and Jordan Knox will continue Nyora’s run this weekend.
