A Grade, Division 1
THE first round of two-day cricket concluded over the weekend in the LDCA with some mixed results around the region.
After a vintage performance from their skipper set up a defendable total a week prior, Inverloch welcomed Korumburra back to Thompson Reserve to complete their two-day match on Saturday.
The Invy’ captain was backed up tremendously by his bowlers too, as Andrew Donohue (5/32 from 13.3) led the young Stingrays attack to a feast on the Cobras, who lost 8/60 after starting out quite well.
Visiting captain Rumesh Rangana (49 off 63) was the standout, falling just shy of a half century in the 99-run loss, while Jesse Dugard (3/20 from 7) impressed again with the ball for the hosts.
Cleeland’s ton powers Sharks past Town
PHILLIP Island have done it again, completing a resounding victory in the Grand Final rematch against Leongatha to go back on top of the table.
The Scorpions set out in defence of their 225-run total but were on the back foot from the outset as Lachlan Cleeland (123* off 145) made it his day.
The Sharks’ opener batted throughout the whole chase, even while losing two partners along the way to see his side cruise to the 226-run target with eight wickets to spare.
Shiran Rathnayake (45* off 37) chipped in some valuable runs towards the end, to go with his sensational ‘six fa’ a week prior, challenging Cleeland for man of the match honours.
Jack Hume (1/31 from 5) was the pick of the bowlers for Town.
Club wrap up a strong win on the road
CHASING 273 runs for victory on their home deck, Nerrena welcomed Wonthaggi back to the Nerrena Recreation Reserve to finish off their clash.
The hosts got off to a promising start with openers Mitchel Clark (41 off 60) and Loc Roberts (38 off 83) both getting starts, but unfortunately, those starts were the highest scores that were made on the day.
Club bowled beautifully in defence of their strong total, getting behind Ryan Thomas (3/29 from 11) and dismissing their opponents for 210, sealing the 62-run win.
Visiting skipper Joel Brann (2/56 from 17) backed up his half century with a couple of scalps in a great all-round performance.
Lamers blasts match-winning century
OMK has held their spot inside the top three after they completed a gallant road win over the Imperials on Saturday.
Chasing 236 for the win, the Diggers turned to their in-form opening duo, and although Jake Cochrane (4) went cheaply, Ethan Lamers (144 off 217) more than made up for it, blasting a monumental century to see his side over the line.
Lamers’ scored more than half of his side’s runs in the chase in a round-high innings and easily took home man of the match honours despite a brave challenge from Luke Wright (2/45 from 19) and the Imps.

The visitors claimed the win by just two wickets in the end, as Adam Trotto (2*) and Peter Dell (1*) saw them over the line at the end.
A Grade, Division 2
GLEN ALVIE welcomed Nerrena back down the road to continue their clash with the visitors at 1/8, chasing 241 for victory.
Unfortunately for Nerrena though, things just went from bad to worse, as the Alvie attack found full gear.
Ben McRae (3/8 from 3.3) and Nathan Findlay (3/26 from 17) combined to wreak havoc on their visiting opponents, dismantling them for just 63, sealing the mammoth 177-run win.
Nerrena’s captain Dave Trotman (25 off 56) top scored for his side.
Tigers make it four straight
FOSTER had similar success with the ball in their defence against Koonwarra L/RSL, to clinch a fourth straight win to remain atop the A2 ladder.
Harvey Griggs (3/13 from 14) and Josh Toner (3/17 from 11.2) combined for six wickets in a dominant display by the Tigers as they dismissed Koony’ 10/119, making it a 131-run win in a match that saw all 20 wickets fall.
Azhar Mehmood (34 off 60) top scored for the Cougars in a losing effort.
Nyora get past Kilcunda-Bass, hold onto second spot
NYORA finished off their work on Saturday, when they returned to the Bass Recreation Reserve, chasing 157 against Kilcunda-Bass.
The visitors made quite easy work of the modest total, losing just four wickets along the way before surpassing the total and continuing to bat for practise for the rest of the afternoon.
Aaron Kaddatz (87* off 81) finished with an unbeaten half century, but it was the set up by Jake Hackett (57 off 69) that proved pivotal to Nyora’s six-wicket win.
Jackson Baker (2/36 from 7) finished with a pair of wickets on the day.
Le Page dominates with century at home
MDU welcomed Wonthaggi back to the Meeniyan Recreation Reserve as the hosts looked to chase down the 264-runs required for victory.
And chase it down they did, thanks, in no small part, to a mega unbeaten knock from number four Paul Le Page (110* off 152), who was supported well by numerous teammates.
Jai Williamson (2/60 from 16) was excellent with the ball for Wonny’ in a runs fest, as his side took five wickets but just could not dismiss Le Page who was a cut above on the day.
