C Grade, Division 1

OMK crushed Leongatha Town as opening batsman Owen Fitzpatrick amassed an incredible 153 runs in the C1 match held on Saturday.

OMK welcomed Town to Digger Park and started on its winning way with a successful toss.

The Diggers chose to bat first, which proved to be an excellent decision as Fitzpatrick was fired up for a solid innings.

Fitzpatrick had set the Diggers apart with his 153 runs before he was caught by Dean Wilson off the bowling of Tim Cashin.

Fitzpatrick wasn’t the only one in fine form.

Captain Justin Greenwood opened the innings alongside Fitzpatrick. 

He made 73 runs before he was bowled by Hugh Livingstone, which sent in Mitchell Nicholas.

Nicholas made 91 runs before he was bowled by Poly Joseph Kallookkaran.

Kallookkaran also dismissed Noah Furness for 25 runs.

Liam Maskell and Ryan Eustace finished off the innings with three runs each and were not out when OMK reached its impressive and daunting final tally of 4/380.

The challenge proved too much for Town, who could not gain enough momentum.

Cashin and captain Alex Aeschlimann made 13 and 24 runs respectively, which turned out to be a highlight for Town’s innings.

Kallookkaran added 15 runs later in the innings.

For OMK, Maskell had the best bowling figures, claiming 4/25.

Scott Anthony Handley took two wickets, and singles were taken by Fitzpatrick and Eustace.

Town handed OMK the win with a score of 8/83.

Nerrena dominates Kilcunda-Bass

NERRENA flexed its muscles and overpowered Kilcunda-Bass at the Leongatha velodrome.

Kilcunda-Bass won the toss and chose to bat.

The Sharks lost opening batsman Joel Huckett for three runs.

With the score at 1/17, Gregory Miller joined Joel Dickson at the crease and the partnership went on to make 69 and 27 runs respectively.

Robert Blackney contributed 28 runs to the total.

Cameron Baudinette was the top bowler for Nerrena, taking 2/38.

The rest of the fallen wickets were shared between five bowlers.

Kilcunda-Bass played out its allotted overs and returned a score of 7/163.

Nerrena hit a snag when it lost opening batsman Billy Trotman for a duck.

However, captain Brian Gannon was in it for the innings, making 76 not out.

Third bat Eamon Berryman stepped in at the dismissal of Trotman and made 10 runs and was followed by Gerard Murphy.

Murphy recorded 42 runs, helping to secure the win. 

Baudinette saw out the innings with Gannon and made 24 not out.

Nerrena had the points within 30 overs.

Kilcunda-Bass bowler Hunter Bettles claimed 2/30 and Ash Joseph took 1/15.

Nerrena’s winning total was 3/164.

Island edges out Korumburra in hard-fought victory

A TUSSLE with Korumburra saw Phillip Island earn a victory.

Playing at the Poowong Recreation Reserve, the toss was in favour of Korumburra.

The Cobras chose to bat first, sending in Shayne Harland who went on to make 13 runs.

Number four batsmen Patrick Beadel produced the top score of 28 runs.

George Edwards, Timothy Morrison and Bryce Riddell contributed 15, 17 and 16 runs respectively.

Morrison and Riddell were not out at the end of the Cobras’ 35 overs.

Korumburra was set to defend 7/125.

Phillip Island made a decent start to its innings with the opening partnership of Steven Niven and Brydon Marshall making 18 and 22 runs respectively.

Archie Williams would secure the win for Phillip Island, top-scoring with 24 runs.

Daniel McCausland made 18 runs and was not out at the end of the match.

For Korumburra, Beadel and Harland were the top bowlers with two wickets each.

Singles went to Thomas Sorrell and Matt Foote.

Phillip Island’s winning score was 6/129.

Wonthaggi Club had the round 13 bye. 

C Grade, Division 2

Stewart’s century earns Inverloch the win 

LEADING by example, captain Warren Stewart made a century and steered Inverloch to victory against Koonwarra LRSL.

The Stingrays won the toss and chose to send Stewart out to bat – a match-winning decision.

Stewart was joined at the crease by David Harris, who made 37 runs before he was caught by Rhett Collins off the bowling of Jack Hawkins.

Collins would ultimately dismiss Stewart as well.

Collins claimed 2/37 for the innings, while singles were taken by Hawkins and Dan Isgro.

Koonwarra L/RSL was challenged to chase 4/196.

A modest start by Koonwarra L/RSL meant the Cougars could not gain the right momentum to approach Inverloch’s score.

Tailender Dihen Yuthmika made the top score with 30 not out.

Dylan Hanily, Mick Caruana and captain Glenn Matthies made 14, 15 and 13 runs respectively.

Inverloch bowlers Isaac Richardson, Michael Asbury and Holly Williams claimed two wickets each.

Koonwarra L/RSL fell short with a score of 8/121.

Captain Thorn leads Glen Alvie to triumph

GLEN Alvie recorded a nice win over OMK.

Playing at the Glen Alvie Recreation Reserve, OMK won the toss and elected to bat.

Fourth bat Danny Elford was the first to put a significant score on the board with 30 runs.

The top score came from Matt Whiteside, who made 34 runs before he was run out by Jarvis Hynes.

Tailender Andrew Perry finished it off with 18 runs.

Glen Alvie’s bowling honours went to Grace Luff and Wayne Bridle, who claimed 2/9 and 2/24 respectively.

Singles were taken by Hynes, Tai Bolding and Lucas Ton.

At the end of 35 overs, OMK had made 10/130.

Glen Alvie had its turn at bat but lost opening batsman Owen Luff for one run.

A catch by Angus Halliwell off the bowling of Michael Whiteside dismissed Luff.

Luff’s dismissal sent in captain Ian Thorn, who won the game with 61 not out.

Opening batsman Daniel McGuirk made 11 runs, John Cuttriss added 27 runs, and Ton ended the innings not out, having made 18 runs.

Whiteside took two wickets from Glen Alvie and one wicket went to Jayden Battersby.

Glen Alvie claimed the points with a score of 3/136.

The match between Phillip Island and Nyora was abandoned after Nyora was forced to forfeit.
