Foster in shock after 'street fight' death
Tranquility in the small South Gippsland town of Foster was shattered on Wednesday evening this week when a man in his 30s was killed allegedly as a result of a street fight with another man. Homicide squad police are investigating.

THE community of Foster is in shock after news that a 39 year old man has died after reports of a street fight.

The incident occurred in front of the town’s supermarket, right in the middle of the Foster shopping centre.

It has been reported that there are a number of video surveillance cameras in this part of town but police are still seeking assistance from the public.

The decease man has been named as Paul Doran, 39, of Toora.

Tributes have flowed since the incident on social media where Doran has been described as "a friend to all... a good bloke with a big heart... and a gentle soul".

Police Media has issued the following statement:

Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in Foster this evening.

Emergency services were called to Main Street about 5.45pm on Wednesday 20 July after reports of two men fighting.

Ambulance paramedics treated a man, believed to be in his 30s, at the scene but he later died.

Another man was arrested by police and is currently assisting investigators with their enquires.

At this stage investigators believe those involved were known to each other.

Condolences from the Mayor

South Gippsland Shire Council Mayor, Cr Mohya Davies, a resident of Foster, has issued a statement of support for the community and the families involved.

"Our thoughts are with the families who are well known in the community. It's a most unfortunate, tragic situation," Cr Davies said today.

She said the community was still coming to terms with the incident.
