SOUTH Gippsland Hospital Moovers are in final preparations with a spectacular fundraising event this weekend.

The event started from humble beginnings in 1987 when Hester Woodrup challenged ger husband, Woody, the Port Fairy Apex Club and another team of local identities to ride in relay from the Murray River to Moyne River in Port Fairy to rise monies for the Port Fairy Hospital. The ride would take 24 hours.

Fast forward 36 years and South Gippsland Hospital’s doctors, nurses and community members have jumped on board for their 11th year of relaying to raise monies for our very own SGH.

Smashing the previous target, this year the count is already at $19,500 and that is before Saturday’s special fundraising event at Sandy Point Community Centre and all important raffle.

There are over 25 prizes to be won in the raffle including boat tours, accommodation, massages, vouchers, nursery trees and more.

“It’s incredibly humbling that so any businesses and community members have come together,” SGH CEO Paul Greenhalgh noted.

“All monies raised are going towards upgrades to our surgical services – we have several pieces of equipment that are approaching their end of life. Depending on how much we raise we will work through our priority list.

There is plenty of fun to be had at the Jungle Jim Smith fundraising event kicking off on Saturday (March 18) with doors open and pizza from 6pm and music from 8pm.

Visit the SPM Facebook Page for more information and to book tickets.

Community members can keep up to date during the relay itself via South Gippsland Hospital’s Facebook page from April 1-2.
