KORUMBURRA-BENA continued its recent fine form with a thrilling one-point win over Koo Wee Rup.

Playing at the Koo Wee Rup Recreation Reserve, the first goal of the game went to the Dees.

Wind was a massive factor in Saturday’s game for both teams, causing inaccurate kicking and limited scoring opportunities.

Giants’ Zach Walker read the ball well with lots of interceptions and Josh Hopkins exhibited some clean handballing skills.

Kicking against the wind in the first quarter, the Giants were still able to score, but Koo Wee Rup used the wind to its advantage early.

Rhys Dixon kicked a great running goal from 50 to get the Giants a good head start coming into the second quarter, now using the wind.

It was a very fast game, with lots of movement into the midfield.

The Giants were down by two points at halftime.

Tyler Newton kicked a great running snap against the wind in the third quarter and Hopkins continued his clean skills through the midfield.

Lachie Smith was strong down back, sticking tight to his player all day Tom Crocker kicked a goal to bring it back to five points at the 18-minute mark in the last quarter.

Ryan Gillis was granted a free kick at Koo Wee Rup’s kick out, allowing him to kick the goal from approximately 50 metres out with the wind, putting the Giants in front by one point.

The last five minutes were intense, the ball going from one pocket to the other without score.

There were lots of stoppages.

The boys did extremely well to stop any score from the Demons whilst being one point up in those chilling minutes.

Despite their slow start and not using the wind to their advantage in the beginning, the Giants crawled back with strength and determination, to squeeze out the win.

This was the Giants’ third victory for the season.

They hope to record their fourth next week against Inverloch-Kongwak.
