Reserves match:

Though they conceded an early goal to opponent Korumburra, LKFC’s reserve side soon found their rhythm and the back of the net with their opening goal coming from a cross from the boot of James Heneghan and tapped in by River Thomas.

Heneghan found the back of the net himself towards the end of the half and a finish from Tom Murdoch thanks to an assist from Cam Rothnie saw the Knights leading after first half 3-1.

Debut player Luke Knights scored his first goal for the club along with Andy Shuttleworth’s converted penalty and Brian Gannon’s solo run, all helping to make up the confident finishing score 10-2.

Senior’s match:

In honour of the memory of Korumburra City player Brian Newey, the GSL round 16 match between home side Leongatha and their neighbours Korumburra would be a decider for which club would take home the Brian Newey shield this season. GSL ladder leaders Leongatha Knights were frustrated from their draw last week, and determined to gain back some of the success from their earlier season.

Despite a magnificent goal from the feet of midfielder Dan Thomas within the first minutes of the match, their opponent’s strength on the ball proved difficult for the Knights to make any productive forward attacks. A conceded goal in the dying minute of the game saw the Knights settle for a draw.
