High scoring Club trample Town in convincing style
Wonthaggi Club’s Jed Caddy showed an array of attacking strokes against Leongatha Town at McMahon Reserve.

C Grade, Division 1

WITH Trae Dudas-Jacobs recording 105 runs and captain Sam Liddle claiming four wickets, Wonthaggi Club stood triumphant over Leongatha Town.

Playing at Wonthaggi’s McMahon Reserve, Club won the toss and went into bat.

Vice-captain Will Speed and Chris Fraser opened the batting.

Travis Strybosch’s bowling form saw Speed caught out for four runs by Sakthy Vs.

Jed Caddy joined Fraser at the crease. Fraser’s wicket was next to go, falling to Max Carter for 27 runs. Fraser’s exit allowed Dudas-Jacobs to step up and make 105 runs alongside Caddy, who made 30 runs.

Dudas-Jacobs was eventually stopped by a catch from Ray Edwards off the bowling of Jack Cashin.

Justin Licis and Matrix Chisholm contributed 22 runs each.

Strysbosch took the most wickets for Leongatha Town, claiming 2/51.

The rest of the wicket taking was shared between six bowlers.

Wonthaggi Club was set to defend 8/252, which it would do successfully.

Tim Cashin started Town’s innings well with 21 runs before Liddle claimed his wicket.

This turned out to be Town’s top score, with Strybosch adding 19 runs and 18 runs to Poly Joseph Kallookkaran.

Liddle took 4/18, and Licis and Jatin Shannon took two wickets each.

Town was bowled out with a score of 10/79.

Harland’s ton inspires Cobras

Shayne Harland’s impressive 125-run haul saw Korumburra rewarded with a win over Kilcunda-Bass.

The Cobras launched their winning way at the Poowong Recreation Reserve by winning the toss.

Harland opened the batting for Korumburra and was there to stay, as he was not out at the end of the innings.

Three wickets fell to Shaun Tapscott and Hunter Bettles before Iain Riddell made it to the crease.

Riddell added 28 runs before he was bowled out by Ash Joseph, and Thomas Sorrell contributed 18 runs before his wicket was claimed by Edward Magnussen.
Tapscott was Kilcunda-Bass’ top bowler, claiming 2/23.

Korumburra finished its 35 overs with 5/208.

Kilcunda-Bass made a strong start to the innings with its opening batsman Joel Huckett making 43 runs.

Batting fourth in the order, Chris Henderson contributed to the score with another 29 runs.

However, Korumburra bowlers Hudson Jefferis and Lukas Gallagher slowed run opportunities for Kilcunda-Bass, taking two wickets each.

Kilcunda-Bass played out its allotted overs but couldn’t compete with Korumburra’s score, finishing the day with 5/117.

Red Caps win a close one

Although OMK played competitively, Nerrena managed to hold on to the victory.

Playing at Digger Park, Nerrena went into bat first.

Captain Brian Gannon opened well to put 30 runs on the board.

Cameron Baudinette added 21 runs, but it was Wayne Cocksedge and Ben Stein who brought it home when they finished off the innings.

Stein made 38 runs before he was bowled by captain Jordan Myors and Cocksedge made 85 not out.

Myors had OMK’s best bowling figures with 2/46, with the rest of the wicket taking shared between five bowlers.

Nerrena finished its 35 overs with 7/210.

OMK was red hot early with opening batsmen Russ White and Robert Quaife making 53 and 85 runs respectively.

Number three bat Owen Fitzpatrick added 21 runs and number five bat Craig Hart made 23 not out.

However, OMK fell agonisingly short by coming to the end of its allotted overs with 4/200.

Nerrena bowler Eamon Berryman had the best bowling figures with 2/32.

Brendan Salmon and Baudinette claimed one each.

Phillip Island had the bye.

C Grade, Division 2

OMK seize the win 

A HIGHLY competitive game was played out between MDU and OMK, with OMK just holding on to a win at the Dumbalk Recreation Reserve.

MDU won the toss and sent OMK in to bat first.

This worked in OMK’s favour, as opening batsman Tom Eustace was in fine form.

Eustace made 128 runs before he was dismissed by Stephen Riley.

He opened with Ryan Wyatt, who made 22 runs, and Danny Elford contributed 35 runs.

Glen Cocksedge was MDU’s best bowler, taking 2/24.

OMK played out its allotted overs and recorded a score of 3/235.

MDU stepped up to bat but suffered a slow start as it lost opening batsmen Gary Webster and Tim Bright for five runs and a duck respectively.

However, the partnership of Dale Thomas and Craig Hoober had OMK very nervous.

Thomas made 93 not out and Hoober made 94 runs before he was stumped by Matt Whiteside off the bowling of Michael Whiteside.

Michael Whiteside and Jayden Battersby were OMK’s wicket takers.

In a thrilling finish, MDU just fell short of its target with a score of 4/233.

Inverloch score freely

A strong innings resulted in a win to Inverloch over Nyora.

Nyora won the toss and chose to bowl first at the Inverloch Recreation Reserve.

Opening batsmen David Harris and captain Warren Stewart had the Stingrays looking healthy early.

Stewart made 45 runs before he was bowled by Gareth Alsem.

Lucas McMillan was next up to the crease, and he went on to top score with 84 runs before he retired not out.

Harris made 57 runs before Alsem also claimed his wicket.

Michael Asbury contributed 31 not out.

Alsem’s bowling figures were 2/67 and Jaylen Waixel took 2/26.

Inverloch was set to defend 5/258.

Nyora had a shaky start to the innings, but Keith Linford put his team back on track.

Batting fifth in the order, Linford made the top score of 41 runs before he was caught by Stewart off the bowling of Isaac Richardson.

Tailenders William Dixon and Travis White added 21 and 27 runs respectively.

Inverloch bowlers Cameron Butler, Richardson and Aedan Parker claimed two wickets each.

Nyora conceded defeat with a score of 10/161.

Visiting Sharks too strong

Glen Alvie fell short of its goal against Phillip Island on Saturday.

Hosting Phillip Island, Glen Alvie won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Glen Alvie bowlers Jarvis Hynes and William Simmons were quick to dismiss Phillip Island’s opening partnership of Peter Francis and John Manning.

The score was 1/16 when Manning was bowled for three, which sent in Oliver Hodson.

Hodson led the charge to victory with 72 not out.

Shane Carville and Sachin Sirirathnage added 26 and 28 runs respectively.

Glen Alvie’s top bowlers were Luke Scholz and Charlie Andersen with two wickets each.

Phillip Island reached 6/176.

Glen Alvie looked to be playing a similar game when Owen Luff and captain Ian Thorn made 27 and 75 runs respectively.

Luff was caught by Sebastian Di Falco off the bowling of Jai Kleverkamp and Thorn was not out.

However, the run rate slowed as Phillip Island captain Michael Clearly claimed 3/17.

Glen Alvie pulled up short with a score of 7/153.
