INVERLOCH smashed out its first innings against Korumburra on Saturday.
The Stingrays travelled to the Korumburra Recreation Reserve, where they won the toss and produced a challenging score of 6/347 for the Cobras to chase.
Walter Taberner and captain Brett Debono opened Inverloch’s account.
Taberner made 49 runs before his wicket was claimed by Noah Belvedere and Debono just fell short of a ton with 99 runs.
He was caught by Trevor Allen off the bowling of George Edwards.
The opening partnership had already made a statement, but fourth bat Jack Rowe ensured there was more to come.
Rowe made 113 and was not out at the end of the innings.
Belvedere was Korumburra’s top performer, taking 4/49.
Korumburra will step up to bat on Saturday.
Berryman hits century
Nerrena also put up a hefty score against OMK.
Playing at the Nerrena Recreation Reserve, the Red Caps won the toss and sent in vice-captain Damien Symmons and Kade Berryman to set the tone of the match.
Symmons made 34 runs before he was bowled by Ben Maguire, but Berryman had made 106 before he was stopped by Adam Busana.
OMK bowlers Maguire, Busana and Trevor McGeachin ran through Nerrena’s middle order, but the last couple of batsmen of the day ensured the Red Caps came away with a threatening score.
Charlie Dougherty made 32 runs before he was caught by David Jeffries off the bowling of Alex Rose.
Captain Michael Croatto and Tyson Harris made 32 and 36 not out.
At the end of Nerrena’s 70 overs, it had made 8/303 with OMK set to chase this score on Saturday.
Dobbie destroys Sharks
Phillip Island will be digging deep to defend 10/120 against Wonthaggi Club this weekend.
Phillip Island won the toss and chose to bat at Wonthaggi’s McMahon Reserve.
Max Arceo and Heath Womersley opened, making 23 and 27 runs respectively.
These turned out to be the top scores for the day, with Tony Hornsby later contributing 22 runs.
Club bowler Heath Dobbie was merciless, taking a whopping 7/40 from the shellshocked Sharks.
Bryce Evans was the only other wicket taker, claiming 2/27.
Phillip Island was bowled out after 57 overs.
Club opened its first innings with David Britt and Harry West both making nine not out.
They now have the week to prepare before continuing their run.
MDU had the round 13 bye.
B Grade, Division 2




Town earns its place at the top
LEONGATHA Town will be looking to cement its place at the top of the B2 ladder after a first innings win against second-placed Koonwarra/LRSL.
Koonwarra/LRSL won the toss at Scorpion Park, choosing the bat first.
Town bowlers Lachlan Gill and Pandukabhaya Jayasinghe made it difficult for Koonwarra/LRSL to make its mark on the scoreboard, claiming three wickets each.
The Cougar’s third bat Nick Arnup top scored with 44 runs before he was bowled by Colin Bruce.
Matthew Boswell made 28 runs, but Koonwarra/LRSL’s batting order was riddled by a number of ducks caused by Jayasinghe and Gill.
After 44 overs, Koonwarra/LRSL was bowled out 10/114.
Town launched into its innings with opening batsman Mark Hardy making 65 not out.
Louis Read dismissed Trent McRae for one run and Luke Bowman stepped up to make 27 runs before his wicket was taken by Arnup.
Bruce finished off the innings with Hardy, making 19 not out.
Town won the first innings after passing Koonwarra/LRSL’s score, making 2/122 off 26 overs.
It will be looking for an outright win this weekend.
Imps keep Foster honest
The Imperials will be looking to chase Foster’s score of 10/207 on Saturday.
Foster won the toss and chose to bat, sending in Billy Davy and Neil Henry.
Davy made 25 runs before he was dismissed LBW by Kristian Gray and Henry made 42 runs before he was caught by Andrew Meyer off the bowling of Cooper Rickard.
The top score came from Paul Jervies, who made 61 runs before his wicket was also claimed by Rickard.
Rickard had the Imperials’ best bowling figures, taking 3/50.
Meyer claimed two wickets.
The Imperials will have their opportunity to bat this weekend.
Glens hold tight rein
Kilcunda-Bass is set to defend 10/150 against Glen Alvie this Saturday.
Playing at the Bass Recreation Reserve, Kilcunda-Bass won the toss and chose to bat.
Alister McBride opened for the Sharks and made 38 runs before he was run out by Darcy Hale.
Fifth bat Andrew Leighton top scored with 52 runs, but these turned out to be the most significant scores of the day.
Nate Luff went on a run to knock out the second half of Kilcunda-Bass’ batting order, claiming 3/26.
Lachlan McRae also took three wickets and two wickets were claimed by Tony Bals.
Kilcunda-Bass was bowled out in the 62nd over, leaving time for Glen Alvie to open its innings.
Glenn Moore and Jack Brown played eight overs and will resume play this weekend.
