THE funeral for Korumburra sporting identity Gwen Evison will be held at the St Paul’s Anglican Church Korumburra on Monday, April 15 commencing at 1.30pm.
Mrs Evison, a popular and talented local sporting identity, especially in her chosen sports of tennis and golf, died last Friday, April 5 at Abbey Gardens, Warragul.
Ahead of the celebration of her life next Monday, the tributes have already been flowing from sporting and community organisations that she and her husband of 67 years, Don, were involved in and also from family and friends.
The Korumburra Golf club, where Mrs Evison was a life member, posted a notice to club members saying that Gwen was a willing volunteer and contributor, while competing at a high level.
“In her years at Korumburra Golf Club she willingly took on many administrative roles and was a helpful volunteer in many facets of club life. From changing the oil in the kitchen to collating and organising the club's annual tournament, she and husband Don were always willing to help out. She was a loyal supporter of the golf club and rarely missed an annual general meeting.
“Gwen readily and happily advised newer players on all aspects of playing golf. Recently the Evison’s moved to Warragul to be closer to their family and so she has not been the previously regular attendee after golf on Wednesdays.
“Gwen was a great golfer in her own right and a staunch supporter of women's golf. Recently, in 2017, she was rightly awarded club and district life memberships.”
The funeral on Monday will be followed by a 3pm afternoon tea and refreshments at the golf club.
