DEPUTY Leader of the Federal Opposition the Hon Sussan Ley MP met with Mirboo North residents at Jimmy Jambs Cafe last week to discuss disaster recovery.
Joined by Liberal Candidate for Monash, Mary Aldred, Ms Ley connected with local residents discussing how Mirboo North was recovering five months on from the catastrophic storm event that ripped through the area in February.
Residents reported some insurance companies had been slow with their claims processes and several residents were still living in homes with significant damages.
“Over the last five months since the storm event I have had a number of discussions with Mirboo North residents about their frustration at the lack of adequate response by some insurance companies, as well as broader areas of support community members are keen to highlight,” said Ms Aldred.

“That’s why I have asked the Deputy Leader of the Federal Opposition Sussan Ley to meet local residents and community groups with me to ensure the issues they are facing can be highlighted at a federal government level.”
The Deputy Leader said she valued the opportunity to hear from the Mirboo North residents.
“As a rural Liberal I understand the ongoing impact natural disasters have on communities like Mirboo North, and hearing from the community was invaluable,” said Ms Ley.
“Whether it is the government in Melbourne or in Canberra, leaders and bureaucrats need to listen to the needs of this community and I want to thank Mary Aldred for convening this important meeting.”
