DALYSTON ended its 2024 season on a sombre note with a 104-point loss to Tooradin-Dalmore.

With three key players out – two due to concussion the previous week – it was going to be a tough ask to face the fifth-placed side.

Despite this, Dalyston played competitively and pleased fans with its brand of footy.

Coach Mitch Hallahan led from the front and has been a warrior all season.

He took two great tackles and led the way the entire game.

Unfortunately, Tooradin-Dalmore got the jump on Dalyston and kicked seven goals to the Magpies’ two in the first quarter.

The second quarter was just as slow-moving on the scoreboard for the Magpies, who were still competitive out on the field.

However, Tooradin-Dalmore showed its superior class and continued to widen the margin.

Dalyston bounced back in the third quarter, getting more of the ball out of the centre and putting six goals on the scoreboard.

Hayden Wallis led Dalyston’s goal-kicking efforts with three.

Co-captain of the Senior side, Wallis has provided an excellent target for Dalyston up forward all season and kicked some great goals from deep in the pocket on the day, showing real skill.

Dalyston’s pressure down back was also solid.

Ben Lewis played his first game back from injury and was a tough presence in the defence, alongside Louis Armstrong, who was a great rebound defender and always quick off the mark.

Armstrong has played on the small forwards throughout the season and showed consistency each game.

However, the momentum died out by the fourth quarter and Tooradin-Dalmore was able to comfortably walk away with the points.

Dalyston Football Netball Club congratulated Luke Scholz for umpiring his first Senior game.

The Dalyston footballers will now be taking a well-earned break in the lead-up to preseason, set to start in November.

They are also looking forward to supporting the A and B Grade netballers who will represent the club in the upcoming finals series.
